Homecare Policies & Procedures - FAQs

Care staff are expected to have, or be working towards, a relevant qualification such as the Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social
Care. All new staff must complete the Care Certificate within their probation period. Previous experience in care is desirable but not always
essential, as full training is provided.

All employees must undergo a thorough recruitment process, including identity verification, employment history checks, references, and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Staff are not permitted to work unsupervised until all checks are completed and cleared.

The organization follows all regulations set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Regular internal audits, policy reviews, staff supervision,
and inspections ensure ongoing compliance. Policies are updated in line with legislative changes and best practice guidance.

Only trained and competent staff are permitted to administer medication. Medication must be administered according to the client’s care plan and
recorded immediately in a Medication Administration Record (MAR). Any errors or refusals must be reported and documented according to
policy.

Care plans are created following an initial assessment involving the client and/or their family. Plans are person-centred and regularly
reviewed—typically every 6 to 12 months or sooner if needs change. Updates are documented and communicated to all relevant staff.

Caregivers must follow strict infection prevention protocols, including hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe
disposal of waste. Guidance aligns with standards from NHS England and public health authorities.

All incidents must be reported immediately to a supervisor and documented using the organization’s reporting system. Safeguarding concerns
must be escalated in line with local authority procedures and may involve external agencies if necessary.

All staff must comply with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act. Personal information must be stored securely and only shared on a need-to-
know basis. Breaches of confidentiality are treated as serious disciplinary matters.

Complaints are taken seriously and handled promptly in line with the complaints policy. Clients can raise concerns verbally or in writing. All
complaints are investigated, and outcomes are communicated clearly. Lessons learned are used to improve service quality.

All staff receive mandatory training, including safeguarding, moving and handling, medication, and infection control. Ongoing training and
refresher courses are required to maintain competency and ensure high standards of care.

Caregivers must follow emergency protocols, including calling emergency services when required. Clients’ care plans include specific guidance
for emergencies. Staff are trained in first aid and fire safety procedures.

Quality is monitored through regular audits, spot checks, client feedback, staff supervision, and performance reviews. The organization also uses
feedback from inspections by the Care Quality Commission to drive continuous improvement.
